The Quiet Girl (Irish: An Cailín Ciúin) is an Irish and English language film written and directed by Colm Bairéad.
The film is based on "Foster", a 2010 short story by Claire Keegan.
The film is set in 1981 in rural Ireland and stars Catherine Clinch, Carrie Crowley, and Andrew Bennett.
This is Catherine Clinch's first acting role as well as Colm Bairéad's first film.
The Quiet Girl was elected to represent Ireland as the Best International Feature Film at the 2022 Academy Awards, which was the first time an Irish film earned that nomination.
It also received BAFTA nominations for Best Film Not in the English language and Best Adapted Screenplay.
The film was generally well received and became the highest grossing Irish-languge film of all time.
